“Assimil8 came in and achieved more in a four-day proof of concept than our previous partner had managed in nine months”, Mathew Everson, IT Director, Reed & Mackay.
Our client, Reed & Mackay, is a major bespoke travel company based in the City of London, providing high end travel services to business and private clients. They pride themselves that for every £1 spent in their fees, clients enjoy £3 worth of savings off travel costs. That’s some saving!
Assimil8 were asked to provide an overhaul of Reed & Mackay’s Business Analytics, following a failed attempt by a different consultants using SAP Business Objects.
IBM were interested in the work we did and have used the project for a case study. This is now published as part of IBM’s own website and is going to be used as marketing material. To say we are pleased is sort of understating it...
Here is the case study on IBM’s website.

It’s interesting that Reed & Mackay were taken as a case study because they are very dynamic. When we stepped in, they had hit a brick wall, with a budget going to waste and an increasingly frustrated end user base.
Our work was centred on rationalising their data. This was the key – get the data right and the power of Cognos Report Studio would do the rest. (With a little bit of magic from our team of course...)
Which is essentially what we did. Model the data in a way that made the end result accurate, seamless, efficient and easily maintained.
One final thing that comes out of the white paper itself is the empowerment. I worked in the Reed & Mackay offices on this project and I can say from first-hand experience that they were very keen on taking over the report writing. It suited them that they could take the reins as it were. So we spent some time guiding their team in what we were doing, explaining how things were
That’s a major part of what we do, empowering clients. We don’t just sit back when a project is done and wait for the continuing consultancy. That suits nobody really. We want to enable clients to do things themselves. Of course we are there for the elements that cannot be passed on, but, if the client wants it, day to day work we pass on.
